Release Techniques for Interns guiding "Barometer" Kids

When we work with "barometer" youth (or adults), Release Techniques (Palladio NLP Resource Center) are essential -not only to have in our toolbox, but to know when and which one to select.

In order to regulate our emotions and generate harmonious emotions, we need ways of bypassing discordant energies generated in our environment. Barometer kids (and sometimes not-yet-matured adults) vary according to labile emotions -not yet regulatable on a consistent basis). We expect babies and young children to display variability according to internal and external "weather." With guidance and "ZONE" support to meet developmentally expected milestones, we can expect kids to progressively learn to regulate their emotions and performance. However, when we underprepare our kids to meet developmental milestones (and the same applies to historically underprepared adults) they lag behind. We can know this because they display behavior and beliefs that we generally expect of younger individuals.

Under these circumstances, we who guide their on-going development, need both internal supports and external resources. Thus support groups, councils, meditation, and NLP strategies support us! Only when we use them...and use them without delay.

Weasel Words ... Beware!

One of our missions at Palladio is manifesting opportunities for parents, teachers, and students to master the Power of Twelve.  We call ourselves to Walk the High Road at all times and under all circumstances. Integrating our twelve powers into our thinking (past, current, future), words (past and current and future), and actions is our community commitment!  No matter what someone else may be thinking, saying, or behaving -regardless of the situation, our emotional state, past history, or feeling under attack- we call ourselves to Walk the High Road.

With this challenging commitment  in mind we may often find ourselves confused, scared, tentative, or simply wishing to align ourselves with something much larger that will 'back us up.'  In such moments -or hours- we may be tempted to use Weasel Words (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Avoid_weasel_words#Unsupported_attributions).

Instead of succumbing to these ordinary human tactics, pause.  Inhale. (Remember what you learned in your NLP classes.) Ground inwardly to a greater sense of being, of peace, of harmony with all that is.  If we are unable to immediately return to this Center of All Good, then we can remove ourselves from the situation.  It is better to remove oneself temporarily, than remain in a situation that is beyond our current capacity to  practice principles.  During such times, it is more appropriate to seek instructional support that expands our zone of proximal development (See www.teachersinourcities.blogspot.com).

Simply and harmoniously, we excuse ourselves.  Refer to our participation contract , Speech and Dialogue, Section: Compassionate Alternatives.  Select one, e.g."I'm sorry ...I just can't do this now.  I'll get back to you in the future."

Then ... become like an apparition!  Remember Buddha, Saints, Prophets and Yogis apparate when the time calls for apparation.  Aspiring along this same path, we can practice at our current  level of ability.  With compassion and a plan for future reconnection, we can remove ourselves temporarily.  Why remain where the nexus of energy cannot yet sponsor safe harbor, nor sustain emergence of  greater good? (If you come up with a truly good reason for staying where pervasive fear and/or active hate prevail, please email either of us immediately.  Don't hesitate!)

In the future, we can ask for a redo (Mary Mannin Morrissey) when all concerned are ready and prepared to think, speak, and behave in ways agreed to contribute to the greater good.  Remain mindful of the guidelines:

  1. don't  harbor thoughts and words that engage character assassination (inwardly or outwardly).  Sustain instead a positve image of the other, of what good joining might look like-sound like-feel like.  Envision the good that can emerge through active practice of the principles.
  2. refrain from borrowing from humankind's 'wealthy-but-unhealthy' supply of weasel words (we tend to hide behind). Sustain instead openness to using simple, unambiguous, unequivocating words.   Stimulate the NLP Pattern for Authentic Communication (PAC).  From this state of being, we become ready to use words that promote authentic communication from our end.  PAC decreases opporunity for misinterpretation, and increases the likelihood our words will be remembered accurately (vs. interpreted with subsequent memory storage of the intervening  intepretation). (See Memory Research http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/09/090910114136.htm
