Dennis Prager (see online "Prager University") recently posed detailed questions within his larger, more profound cultural question: Can the thinking of conservationists be  reconciled with secularists who popularize NIHILISTIC thinking?

Prager's question invites deeper examination of these essential contrasts: Nihilistic Thinking vs Conservative Thinking.

Please see how this flows for you ---because transcendence depends upon deeper thinking and fuller dialogue among ourselves. Higher levels of Moral Reasoning are stimulated ONLY BY on-going dialogue.  Expanded development in turn will transform selves, relationships, families, neighborhoods, communities, states, and our nation: 

Nihilistic thinking 

1.  employs desensitizing, humanity-removed, experientially-absent, cognitively candy-coated generic terminology (i.e."abortion" "fetus" vs dismemberment, burning, intentional & systematic destruction of infant within) 

2.  refocuses attendant consciousness on selective aspect isolated from the whole (e.g. an emotional issue of one part of the whole picture  --- for instance on the scared mother's "right" to end a life she initiated over her child's right to continue living his/her life, disregarding also that the path to elimination involves a torturous experience on the part of the developing infant who feels and recoils from pain at 8 weeks of life)  

3.  reframes/re-labels processes in terms of culturally solidified prior associations with the word used (e.g. Progressive policies really regress our political representation, our economy, our independence from World Governance, but "progress" is a word whose prior meaning was culturally absorbed-as-positive) (e.g. "Planned" "Parenthood"...sounds good, but there's no planning involved, nor parenthood). These are intentional strategies used in order to 

4. recontextualize reality (its a rare mother-to-be who would not recoil from images of dismembering, burning, torturing-until-dead her baby of 8 weeks through the day before his/her nature-timed delivery at 9 months). THIS un-reframed REALITY WOULD BE HEINOUS to any woman pregnant with a child once she sensed, connected with, or had opportunity to observe the impact abortive processes have on the child she protects by natural design -specifically designed to provide safety while her child completes his/her developmental cycles according to the  LAWS OF NATURE. 

In contrast, 

Conservative thinking 

1. begins by acknowledging LAWS OF NATURE as "here" for a reason, as responsive to the scienfitic process, profoundly intricate, not only sensible but "sacred," so unique many reference these laws and their engineering are God-ordained, not to be tampered with willy-nilly or willfully, not to be encountered or handled carelessly, definitely not to be replaced by MANipulation of humankind's senses, consciousness, or perceptions with intent to redefine reality or "the human experience" (think of GMO's and the disease created by MANipulation of natural foods, seeds, soils, water).

2. Instead, cultural conservationists value human experience across the ages as substantive indications of what is natural, inherent to man and woman - even designed by Divine Intelligence, Divine Wisdom, Divine Creation. Conservationists would say, Death at any level is serious business, not taken lightly or mislabeled to separate our consciousness from our choices. Both Life and Death are to be reckoned with, honored, revered. Which is why even our earliest ancestors engaged ceremonies around Life and Death.  Conservative thinking presupposes Causation, A Big Bang, a Supreme Being of some sort -and for most conservative thinkers in Western Civilization we experience life not only through bodies, minds, emotions, but Spiritually  through the lens of Being Created in God's Image & Likeness.(Judeo-Christian Philosophy, Logic, Theology developed and time tested across thousands of years).

3. Language remains stable -changing very slowly across centuries (not relative to each person or small group and morphing year to year). Conservative thinkers call a spade a spade, a human being (at any stage of our development) a human being: baby, infant, child (not an insect, a puppy, a tadpole, or a rock). 

4.  PERSONhood remains inherent in terms used by conservationists to further define ourselves as human beings developing. Words and their meanings remain in tact: thus serve as tools for further clarifying  defining, discerning deeper meanings shared in communication between and among people within THE  CULTURE  at hand.

Personal Commentary:

My experience over the past 8 years has been this: nearly all of our relatives, friends, neighbors operate as conservationists/conservatives within their spousal & sibling relationships, within themselves, within home-lives of raising children, within the framework of maintaining their finances/homes, and their jobs/professional lives. Culturally, in our bodies and in operationalizing our personal lives we are successful because we conserve our resources, our time, our words, our meanings with each other.

So HOW does this apparent "disconnect" for some come about when mapping across FROM personal home/professional lives TO political/public lives? 

When I observe some I know well and esteem, it's as if on a public/political front some channel an OUT-OF-BODY experience -of an entirely different type than they engage in their personal living. Such a disconnect impacts our social order in ways and policies that reek of NIHILISM.

MY THEORY RE PROCESS OF DISCONNECT: Nihilistic Thinking I suspect has been around as long as human beings. Cups half full, a series of very unfortunate incidence accrue, depression ensues, support goes unperceived and we have a profile for NIHILISM, Small,  sporadic,  but persistent eruptions of nihilism has accrued overtime. Nihilists are generally out for themselves, nothing really matters, there's no higher order of design or thought or spiritual transcendence, so why bother to not be self-oriented? 

Organizing over time, nihilistic thinkers bond into action groups (gangs is the common term). Since the Russian and French revolutions, society tends to notice the similarities between nihilists and what we've come to know as The Left. Leftist-violence reared their rebellious heads periodically world-wide overtime (e.g. Middle Ages mob mentality, The Inquisition, The Bolsheviks, The pro-slavery Democrats & KKK, The Communists, Naziism-Islamism, Venezuelan-Socialist "activists. What these movements have had in common is that they are very willing to resort to use of any and all means to both justify and finally achieve their end: MANipulation of all peoples, all thoughts, all power, all resources. Saul Alinsky is a perfect example of Leftist organizing in the 20th century, with full behind-the-scenes application of nihilistic  strategies ever-more-evident now in our 21st Century. Evidence is easily tracked throughout Europe, and "at home" since HW Bush, then WJ Clinton, then GW Bush, and finally BH Obama. Catch EWTN's documentary, entitled: Wolves in Sheep's Clothing ...it portrays the organizing of Allinsky, his followers and their impact both on our government and the Catholic Church.

What we know from Psychology and Sociology is that the highest in a culture is moderated/reduced by societies operationalizing its lowest common denominator. High functioning cultures, with persistent Leftist funding and organizing, can be reduced to rubble. And we've seen this in previous destruction of highly functioning civilizations across the ages.  Higher order cultures can be most easily destroyed by those lacking moral restraint, operating at a primal level of moral reasoning (predator-prey). With no constraints (except strategic counter- interference plus enforcement of substantial & unpleasant consequences), the far Left is free to use every means at their disposal to undue that which they choose to reduce, reform, and restructure according to their own image and likeness: Nihilism. 

The visible/palpable results of far Left operations frightens most observers who start fearing for their reputation, their livelihood, their lives or lives of those they love (Leftists typically smear, slander, calumnize people/groups/policies perceived as "opposition.") Thus, they assume control an under-informed, eventually under-educated, and particularly propagandized "populace." Political correctness is the tool of psychological control. Just as the Muslim Brotherhood (Egypt, 1928) designed their first front group after relocating in the '60's to NYC as the "Muslim Student Association" (and paid to place these (MSA) in our largest universities -and eventually placed in colleges).  

So too with the Communist movement (diminutive term now is Socialist) which took over the schools, then health care in Soviet-controlled countries. Same with Nazism. Take the children, you take the future of the culture. Persecute them publicly and you have made them in your image and likeness: corrected politically (they will publicly claim allegiance to the popular culture -for self-preservation sake, reputation sake, peer group sake, ultimatley to prevent seeing themselves torn apart on Saturday Night Live). We witness how effectively these public persecution strategies serve to split the private from the public self. 

Even when individuals continue to live in private (at home) (internally while achieving success through productivity at work) the opposite can become true "in public." Good people, clear thinkers can split. We can live our personal private lives differently than our public lives. T one successful in society we have to live from  internalized conservationist thinking: because NATURAL LAW IN FACT IN-FORMS US... and is inherently discernible throughout human history across the ages. 

Identity Politics is a Leftist Process of PUBLIC PARALYSIS by which the World of the Left holds onto a culture's young, as well as a well-oiled media, and highly-paid/publicly esteemed entertainment celebrities (as grown from the historic period of Henry Vlll :The King's "court"), and the Left's "elite" "career" politicians.  The Leftists' persistent and pernicious "warring" with actual foundations of Western Civilization brings about what we have witnessed over the past 8 years...and most recently persisting through mass/mob violence, flagrant law-breaking & air of lawlessness, a malicious viciousness mediated on television post Presidential Election. 

Thinking and behaving that was considered "liberal" 20 years ago, is in contrast now clearly intolerant, violently so, even fascist today. It's become this way through the above strategies & "warring" by the Left that has been till now "politely" ignored, under-challenged, unreckoned with by the great majority of US  -conservative thinking, rational thinkers, civilized thinkers, and Judeo-Christian enculturated human beings who want peace, not war, but unfortunately think they want peace at any cost (including cultural destruction -and in many parts of our world, martyrdom & genocide. Some who think they can have peace by not reacting or responding to atrocity ignore the authentic processes inherent in human nature: WE EACH HAVE FREE WILL TO CHOOSE GOOD OR EVIL AT EACH MOMENT (regardless of regulation/consequences from forces outside ourselves). 

When we operate according to our animal nature alone (Nihilism knows no restraint) we have the drive and the power to not only obstruct justice, but to create anarchy. The far Left will & does destroy by whatever means they find available. In contrast, those among US who strive to see ourselves always operating ONLY at "higher" levels in fact lay ourselves as prey to those without restraint or constraints. By ignoring the FACT of our DUAL NATURE, theoretical pacifists have learned drip by drip through a systematic strategy called political correctness to become afraid of their "shadow."  Political suicide ensues. Unfortunately as long as human-kind-of dual-nature lives on Earth, s/he can choose to act as if s/he has either no higher nature, or just as dangerous s/he can behave as if ones higher nature can overcome another's choice to fully activate his/her lower nature -no matter what.

Solution: 

1. Know Thyself. Grow thySelf.

2. Develop not only our Spiritual Nature in God's Image & Likeness (or according to Great Spirit -as Native Americans relate), but at any rate we must develop our relationship with ALL THAT IS, and we must develop our multiple intelligences (Howard Gardner), as well as our uniquely beyond-animal faculties of logic, language, reason.

3. Need no approval from "the world." Be centered in the commonly known and written about Christ Consciousness: Life-Guiding Principles 

4. Think, speak, engage, live from the Culture of Life (not the culture of death: nihilism (relativism).

Flyboys -a true story of courage (James Bradley, 2003)

Palladio High Road Academy students began the winter's curriculum two weeks ago for Flyboys, by James Bradley.   Anthropologist, Dr. Sara Di Angelo, prepared our students for the process of interview -Bradley's own technique for writing this masterpiece on the heroic journeys of World War 11veterans-  immediately upon return from Christmas Recess.  


Academy scholars will soon practice their recently honed interview techniques with resident veterans at Peconic Landing, Greenport, NY.   Accompanied and guided by Dr. Sara Di Angelo, our anthropologist-in-residence on loan from Rome, Italy, our high school students head out with laptops and question protocols to the North Fork on the seven o'clock Jitney tonight.  


Peconic Landing will accommodate our enthusiastic budding journalists throughout the weekend.  The socially generous and upscale setting, staff, and residents will host the first link of its kind on Long Island - a weekend of connecting high school students who have studied World War 11 with real living World War 11 veterans.  These remaining heroes of a pivotal point in global history are drawn from Suffolk county, predominantly both forks of eastern Long Island.


Dr. SaraD foresees this "pilot" project as  an abundant source of future connections between remaining elders and youth craving the hard-earned wisdom of heroic paths.

Theatre Festival: Call-out for Proposals ...come brainstorm on The Green

Being prepared!
This autumn, Palladio International hosts our second annual FAMILY THEATRE FESTIVAL in the Sheep Meadow at Central Park.  Our first festival drew thousands -from as far north as the Adironack's, east from The Points (Orient and Montauk), west from the Delaware Water Gap, and as far south as Fredericksberg!  We are preparing for our 2011 fest by doubling the theatre spots, platforms, and stages available to bring our  theme to life: Hosting Habitual Happiness with Our Kids!  ... What really helps when restructuring our less-than-best habits?

Proposal Writing Groups will flow from our first round of Brainstorm Groups (See Announcements for locations.).  Skit limit: five minutes.  Interactive Family Theatre: fifteen minutes.  Number of performers: 1-3: SPOT, 4-10: Platform, 10+: Stage.

Submit as many skits or interactive theatre proposals as you wish, on as many relevant topics desired.  Brainstorm Groups (to develop the issues, problems, and solutions) will gather during the third week of July (See Pacing Calendar 2011) in four locations on the Central Park Campus.   Forums then are accessible, without crosstown traffic, to those traveling from four directions in the city and beyond.  However, if you don't mind crossing town -or you're enjoying a weekend holiday of public transportation in the city -open seating is available at all four locations.

Palladio's sophomore class crafted the "focus teasers" below.  Teasers help us"activate" memory banks, expanding access to experience relevant to this year's festival topic: Hosting Habitual Happiness with Our Kids...What really helps when restructuring our less-than-best habits?

2.  Have you ever made a "big deal" out of an incident ... sitting kids down while laying out the law, emphasizing which new ways must replace the old, reminding everyone that tomorrow will be a new day ...only to find your own monitoring skills fell short very next day?
3.  How often do you find yourself in your old pattern of overlooking our kids' needs because of a sundry reasons?

Something Borrowed...a film worth viewing for Jane Eyre Sisterhood

Filmed in NYC, this romantic comedy has a very important lesson: sometimes we "borrow" a relationship...we don't know anything exists that is actually more powerful/authentic, convenience, flattery, boredom, status quo/expectations, to please someone else/not hurt an other's feelings.

Darcy borrows...Dex borrows...Rachel allows everyone to borrow from her, until she gets how wrong that becomes for everyone involved.  All Palladio Big Sisters have several options this upcoming week for c-viewing and debriefing re use of this film as a resource with your little Jane Eyre sisters.  Consortium and Council Circles have posted reflections and responses and suggestions for your facilitation.
